Join dozens of ice carvers as they descend on Edmonton this January for a sparkling tribute to the winter season.
New this year, Ice on Whyte has a little help from Edmonton’s newest sister city and province, Harbin, Heilongjiang , China to transform Old Strathcona into an ice and snow wonderland! They have some knowledge on the subject as they host some of the largest ice and snow carving festivals in the world.
From January 13th to 23, 2011 celebrate the festivities while watching artists whittle blocks of ice into masterpieces during the International Carving Competition, exploring an Ice Pagoda, speeding down a giant dragon ice slide, and warming up with a cup of coffee or hot chocolate in a heated tent. And it’s not all ice! In a collaboration of talent between artists from China and Canada enjoy art, music, dance and more presented by the Confucius Institute in the heated entertainment tent.
Admission to the festival is $5 for adults, $2.50 for children 2-12 and children under 2 are free. The festival is open weekdays from 2 pm to 10 pm and from 10 am to 10 pm on weekends.
Located in Old Strathcona, one of Edmonton’s trendiest neighbourhoods, Ice on Whyte takes place in Festival Park, 104 Street and 85 Avenue. For more information on Ice on Whyte, visit IceonWhyte.ca.
